Home-Relay FAQ
Here the answers to the most popular asked questions. If you want to ask additional questions, please use the feedback from below
What are Plugins?
Plugins contain all the business logic for the Home-Relay. Plugins can contain:
- Device Connectors that represent specific devices in your Home (i.e. HUE, WEMO, AVRs, Doorbells etc)
- Service Connectors to services like Azure IoT Hub, SQL Server or MQTT Broker
- Services and automation routines. For example data converters, virtual sensors, image lists or playlist generators
- NMI Extensions that enhance and enrich the user interface
You can find these plugins in our Plugin Store from within the Home-Relay
Where do I find the source-code of the Home-Relay
The Home-Relay is based on the "C-DEngine" which is on github. The Home-Relay itself is just a very tiny container you can build yourself. You can find a tutorial to create your own container application the documents section of the in the github
Who or what is "TRUMPF"?
TRUMPF is a large german machine manufacturer that acquired C-Labs back in 2017 because TRUMPF wanted to integrate the C-DEngine into their machines. In 2020 TRUMPF decided to release the C-DEngine Core Source code as Open Source in order to give back to the community. Connectivity-Labs (the "new" C-Labs) was created in order to maintain and drive the source-code forward.
What is the difference to a application container I write myself compared to the Home-Relay Application?
In order to provide the best cloud access experience to our users, the Home-Relay contains a specific crypto-library that contains the access to our "Cloud-Relay" at https://cloud.home-relay.com.
How does the Cloud Access work?
Unlike other automation systems, the Home-Relay does NOT store anything in the cloud and does not require any sign up for any cloud service. Instead the Home-Relay is using a "Cloud Relay" to give you access to your local data. Please look at our How it Works page to find out how the Relay works.
